Soviet Union

The Second Soviet Union , often shortened simply to the Soviet Union, was formed in the aftermath of a bloody Coup d'etat on January 9th 2020, which unseated the previous government of the Russian Federated States.

Build up to Revolution

After the fall of the United Speakonian Soviet Republic, Premier Asredon Wrathguild reopened elections as he departed his position. Seeing a unity with the western world in sight alongside sentiments to keep Russia strong, the people voted in the Nationalists Party of Russia, and soon enough the nation was known as the Russian Federated States.

Two years on, the party had proven not only militaristic and threatening to peace, but weak and unable to follow through on their promises of strength. Many threats were issued to surrounding nations, however many of them scoffed at what was considered to be the shadow of the USSR. This only proved worse when the Russians made no military moves in accordance to their threats.

The nation had become a laughing stock, considered nothing more than a paper tiger. This rallied a great deal of the nation against the government, though implementation of martial law kept opposition suppressed for a couple of years. More than once was the military deployed by the government to shut down protests - often with fatal consequences.

Uprising

However, there was only so much these sweeps could do, and in time even members of the military began to turn against the ruling government. Named the January Spring, Asredon Wrathguild crept out of hiding to begin coordinating against the government. A popular figurehead recognised for leading the USSR through a golden age and multiple wars, opposing groups flocked to unite under his banner. After several violent protests across the nation, it became clear the government wasn't going to listen.

On January 15th 2020, tanks crushed through Red Square, and soldiers bearing the flag of the Soviet Union pushed through the streets towards the Kremlin. Before long, a siege was underway. The siege on the Kremlin lasted five hours, and the battle of Moscow as a whole took several days to come to it's definite conclusion - primarily due to stubborn military holdouts. The battle was, otherwise, won around the city, and the civil war had come and gone.

When the dust cleared, the battle-damaged city had a new leader - and an old one at the same time. Asredon formally announced the rebirth of the Soviet Union, notably opting to use the proper name as opposed to the original one. After a week of transitional government, free elections were announced. Despite the potential for the nation's destiny to change forever, there was an overwhelming surge of support for the Communist party, and once more Asredon found himself as Premier of the Soviet Union.

Andrei Yeltzof and most of his cabinet went missing shortly after he surrendered at 19:03 on January 19th 2020 and was taken in by military forces.

Present Day

Within a couple of months of the revival, there were multiple protests across former soviet nations, as well as a few that weren't but remained in close proximity. Nations like Finland and the Republic of My ultimately had their protests peter out and amount to nothing.

Other nations, however, emerged into a full-scale civil war over the matter. Most of these were easily found to be backed by the reborn union, but none moved fast enough to prevent the takeover. Before long, the Soviet Unions borders from before it's fall on Earth 1 had been recreated - along with Mongolia, still in the fold. The union now stands greater than ever before, and has reclaimed its place on the world scene in frighteningly speedy fashion.

Government, Economy, Technology

The Soviet Union, despite its name, is a completely open and free democracy. Elections are handled every five years and consist of multiple parties across the political spectrum, though fascist parties are banned without incident. The elections seek to form a government and the winner becomes the Premier, along with their political party. While many nations have been subsumed into the greater union, their citizens are treated with total equality, and their rights are no different than the Russians. All languages are accepted and encouraged to be used, and all manners of left-wing thinking are currently encouraged.

The Soviet economy varies depending on the region. The more temperate regions tend to be much more agriculturally focused, whereas the vast, open areas of Siberia become utilised primarily for industry. The Soviet Union does not associate with any companies, and primarily focuses on providing for its citizens than trading with others. While they are open to trade with other nations, these must be handled on the governmental level, not with corporations. For exports, the Soviet Union's top five are iron, steel, grain, precious metals and uranium.

Technologically, the Soviet Union is the most advanced on Earth 2. Most of the countries power is supplied by nuclear power, though a campaign has been underway to find cleaner, more powerful methods of doing this. While publicly published results have been sketchy at best, speculation rose up in August 2020 that they were on the verge of discovering a new, previously unknown method of drawing energy, for both civilian and military use. The Moscow Center for Research and Development is the largest laboratory in the Soviet Union, and is supposedly the forefront of all scientific developments in the nation.

Military

Despite the long absence of Soviet rule, the Russian military has been the strongest nation on Earth 2 since around 2013. While their fielded army may not be as large as some nations, the sheer technological advantage provided by their weaponry, vehicles and support systems more often than not provide the edge required to overcome most foes. Their weapons focus primarily on superheated plasma that can burn through a great deal of materials. The larger the weapon, the deadlier the effect - though these weapons, big and small, are prone to overheating if they are not granted time to cool down between volleys. The result of plasma burns can be incredibly dangerous, and ultimately required full body armour for even standard Soviet soldiers. The armour is designed to withstand great deals of heat and to deflect projectiles, and can do both very well - though armour can only take so much before it is buckled beneath the strain.

The Soviet Ground Army is easily the strongest branch of the military, however the Red Navy and People's Air Force are not to be trifled with. While less personnel operate in these branches, they serve very important purposes in peace time as well as in war. The Red Navy is, of course, the naval arm of the Soviet Military. Maritime operations typically involve patrolling shipping routes in Soviet waters, demining potentially dangerous areas, scanning for submersible threats, and providing the first line of radar detection for oncoming enemy air and naval forces. The ships are typically fast and heavily armed with a great array of anti-ship and anti-air weapons, with tracking systems only the greatest pilots and captains could hope to avoid.

The People's Air Force provides surveillance to more remote areas in peacetime. Other operations include the operation of all terrestrial detection systems situated within Soviet borders, to provide as early a warning as possible against potential strategic threats, dropping off supplies to potentially famine or drought-stricken areas, conducting emergency rescue operations for people stuck at higher altitudes, and much more. Helicopters have been all but phased out of the People's Air Force, and now focuses on utilising VTOLs and Jets. Helicopters are only utilised for rescue and evacuation operations - and even this is temporary as new, commercial VTOLs are produced.
